Cheriton Fitzpaine is a Red Devon village, a couple of miles off the main Crediton to Tiverton road. It has many fifteenth-century houses, including the longest thatched house in England (the old Primary School; there is now a newer building that houses the school). The Church of St Matthew (Church of England) is a Gothic-style church. There is also a Methodist Church in the village. The Almshouses date from 1594. The population of the parish in the 2011 Census was 556.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Parish population 2011 )〕 The village is a major part of the electoral ward called Way.
